This is Auburn Christian Fellowship's existing meeting hall. These images show just a few of the activities that take place in this space. The new meeting hall should allow for all of these activities to take place, and the inclusion of even more.
The current space has only one option for electic lighting. There are nine surface-mounted flourescent fixtures operated by a single switch. By turning on these lights, the space becomes a simple white shoebox. In order to change the character of the space, much work needs to be done, and alternative methods of lighting must be brought in.
For the monthly coffee houses, a more personal and warmer light was desired. Table lamps and candles were the solution chosen, but they take a lot of time to set up, and become a hazard when the space fills up with people.
The new facility should take into consideration the variety of uses and provide multiple options for lighting the space. Due to the class schedules of most of the students, the space is not frequently used by large groups during the day, thus a simple natural lighting scheme should be considered for cost efficiency. A more complex electrical lighting system should be introduced for evening activities. A variety of lights should be used to maximize efficiency and atmospheric control. A simple dimming/control system should be used that can save lighting schemes for instantaneous change-over from one use to another.
